“Providing a Reliable Base: The Basis for Successful Care”

The training was developed by NGO Care in Action in accordance with the model provided by the University of East England in partnership with the International Leadership Development Center.

12 hours

This program reveals the essence of “Reliable Base” model, which is based on attachment theory and the principles of therapeutic care for children who have suffered abuse, separation or loss. Most children will experience the impact of this experience to a certain extent throughout their lives.

The model combines methods of care that increase children's sense of security and build resilience. This approach to parenting helps children treat themselves and others better and overcome life's difficulties.

The goal of care in this model is to teach parents how to use these methods in accordance with the model components to help children gradually increase their sense of security and resilience.

The model is also based on scientific research. Key studies were conducted by Gillian Schofield and Mary Beech (since 1997) at the University of East England.

Reliable base includes five components of care (sympathy, accessibility, acceptance, collaboration, family belonging) that interact with one another to develop the capacity to effectively care for children who have been affected by abuse and neglect. Provided techniques that fit each component help adults adjust their emotions to help the child feel trust. This model gives the opportunity to help children feel capable, needed, accepted and confident family members.

The purpose of this training program is to increase competence in developing the ability to care for a child; provide parents with methods thanks to which children will feel loving care; provide parents with the knowledge they need to successfully overcome problematic situations with their children.

Program duration: 12 hours (2 days), without breaks.

36 hours

Relevance: Can we, parents, professionals, objectively asses the level of safety (or danger) a child is in? is it enough for a child to live in a safe environment: to be fed, dressed and not abused? Or maybe children need more  – to live in the environment of well-being? Are all children in the community raised in the environment of well-being? Do we treat children as full participants of their own lives? What should the community do for all children to feel safe in it? How can the community strengthen families so that they can take care of their children? How can each child in the community be raised in a family, be ready for life, grow and develop and eventually become a full member of the community? In order to ensure the safety and well-being of children in the community, it is necessary to create a systematic approach to the development of community-based social services. The task of social workers is to implement best practices in the area of child protection, taking into account their needs, interests and their voice in making decisions about their own lives.
